With all the fall events going on, sometimes it’s necessary to stay at home and curl up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate. If you are unsure of what to watch next, here are seven spooky TV shows that will get you into the Halloween spirit.

  1. American Horror Story

If you like horror movies this is the show for you. Each season of American Horror Story functions as a miniseries, so you don’t have to watch every season to get a full story. If you are a Lady Gaga fan, skip right to Season 5 to see her as a vampire in American Horror Story: Hotel.

2. Stranger Things

This Netflix original show debuted last year and quickly gained popularity. Set in a small town in Indiana during the 1980s, this show follows a group of boys and their strange new friend Eleven, who seems to be followed by supernatural events. Start watching it now, and you will be ready for when Netflix drops season two on Oct. 27.

3. The Vampire Diaries

This show follows the mysterious lives of teenage vampires and the mortals they attract. It is reminiscent of shows such as Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill with a mythical twist. If you get attached to this show, you can visit the town it is filmed in, Covington, GA. The town gives extensive tours of the filming locations, for more information you can visit their website.

4. Supernatural

If you enjoy stories about ghosts and monsters, Supernatural will not disappoint. This show follows two brothers and their adventures as they hunt ghosts, monsters and other supernatural creatures. It may even inspire you to go on a ghost hunt of your own.

5. Bates Motel

Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is about Norman Bates who runs his family’s business, the Bates Motel. Without spoiling anything, the happenings at the motel are anything but ordinary. The TV show Bates Motel acts as a prequel to the film Psycho, describing Norman’s childhood and his relationship with his mother.

6. Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks is a great show to watch if you are interested in murder mysteries. The show follows an investigation into the death of a homecoming queen from the fictional town of Twin Peaks, Washington. The show only has two seasons so you could watch this show in its entirety in one weekend.

7. The Walking Dead

This show is filmed in Georgia and follows the lives of survivors of a zombie apocalypse. Their struggle to survive off the land and to escape the zombies that pop up at every turn will keep you on the edge of your seat for all seven seasons, and the 8th season that premieres on Oct. 22. The town of Senoia, GA is home to many of The Walking Dead tourist attractions if you are interested in a spooky day trip.
